Post-Traumatic Growth: Turning trauma into strength.

Feeling all the feels, that sounds nice…but how do you do that?

The best way to start is to own your feelings and be willing to feel them all, exactly as they appear. 

Whenever you feel down, instead of blaming yourself, feeling bad about it or spending all your energy trying to hide it –> embrace it, become aware of it, mention it. 

For example:

Instead of thinking: I feel terrible, I have been inside all day, I should be doing something, why can’t I just do normal things and enjoy life like I used to?

You can try: I am noticing that I am missing my baby and that makes me feel really sad. I know this is normal so I will just cry if I need to.

Notice the shift in your thoughts, notice how your body automatically relaxes when you embrace your feelings, when you can think of them or name them exactly as they are without negative judgments or labels.

Everything you feel is valid.

I know this is probably easier said than done, especially when we are suffering, but awareness is the key here.

Keep this strategy in mind, practice it whenever you can and slowly but surely you will get better at it.

That mindset shift will give you that little bit of positive energy that you need to keep going and stay true to yourself and to your own feelings.

When we are in the midst of our grief it is hard to see our way.

Grief is messy and it takes a lot of our energy.
